On the 5^th of April, the Royal Freemasons Benevolent Institute held their Annual Corporate Volunteer day across all RFBI aged care facilities. Lipman was invited to attend and jumped at the chance to give a bit back while gaining hands on experience of the services that RFBI provide to their residents. Paul Edwards and Dave Peatfield headed off to RFBI Hawkins in Edgeworth Newcastle, while Andrew Crowley and Rob Carter went to the Berry Masonic Village located in the beautiful Shoalhaven region.

Hawkins got off to a roaring start with some highly competitive Bingo. Paul made it through to a high card draw, just falling short of a win, but Dave’s counting ability let him down resulting in spectacular failure.

Meanwhile, over in Berry, Rob and Andrew started the day with a tour of the facility, which was built in 1988 and houses 34 rooms. They then joined the stretches and exercises class, where Andrew’s bones creaked more loudly than some of the 80+ year old residents’. A lovely morning tea followed, chatting and laughing with residents, before a serious game of Monopoly broke out, which Andrew and his partner won! After lunch the competitive spirit continued with games of indoor bowls, golf and darts. A great day was had by all.

Bingo and Monopoly antics aside, the volunteer day provided a unique opportunity for us to better understand RFBI’s vision by watching them in action, interacting with residents, and getting a feel for the operational requirements of the buildings we are working to deliver.

It was a wonderful day, and it is a pleasure to be associated with RFBI, a team so clearly dedicated to the care and happiness of their residents and their staff. Thank you RFBI for allowing us to join in. We look forward to turning out on mass next year to help where we can.
