In 2017 we were awarded the contract to build the new MLC Senior Centre in Burwood, a project involving the construction of a new state-of-art learning facility for an all-girls senior school. As a company we saw this as an incredible opportunity to do more than just build this innovative school, we also saw the prospect to promote and inspire these young ladies to careers in the construction industry.
In Australia, the industry remains the most male dominated sector in the country and as a company we are passionate about seeing this evolve and are committed to encouraging more women to consider careers within our company and the industry.
At Lipman, we know our most valuable asset is our people and the team allocated to the MLC School project exceeded all expectations in delivering a quality product, ahead of program and inspired the next generation along the way. Our very own Project Engineer, Simona Henley was an instrumental part of this team and we were proud to share her story in the new and first publication of the FLORENCE magazine – named after one of the pioneering women in construction. In addition to noting some of the unique design elements of the build, the article showcased Simona’s role, responsibilities and personal success on the project. It also praised her commitment to encouraging the students to seek a career in construction by speaking at an MLC Careers Day, mentoring students and acting as a role model.
On interviewing Simona, Josie Adams, Editor of Florence Magazine said, “Simona was absolutely wonderful to work with – if she is the future of the industry – it’s certainly in good hands.”
To all our incredible staff within the company, we thank you for being inspiring role models for the next generation and bringing fresh valuable perspectives to our company and the industry. We know diversity promotes innovation, productivity and profitability.
