Overview
Complexity of
construction
The construction of a new building housing numerous cancer care functions including clinics, oncology and radiotherapy consultation & treatment, orthovoltage and computer tomography (CT) scans and carer’s accommodation.
The project incorporates one linear accelerator, two radiotherapy bunkers and a range of associated treatment and planning equipment rooms including CT scanner and clinical trial facilities.
Lipman’s team carefully considered the complexity of the construction of the bunker that houses the RT Treatment Rooms. The design of this space relied upon the thickness of the concrete walls, roof and floors for radiation control. There was also a need to introduce lead linings to associated doors and jambs.
