Project Description

This project consisted of the construction of two large warehouse facilities for the Museum of Applied Arts and Science. The Display Store will be used to showcase historical items, host functions and provide learning facilities in addition to storage. The Accessible Store will primarily be used for storage. The warehouses are two levels high and have specific humidity and temperature requirements to provide the optimum conditions for the storage of valuable and rare items.

Both buildings have post-tensioned ground and suspended slabs, concrete and structural steel frame, colourbond roof and masonry and sandwich panel façades. Associated works included civil works and retaining walls. Lipman’s project review and structural redesign provided over $500,000 of savings for the client without compromising the project’s quality, utility or long-term life cycle costs. Lipman, throughout the project, continued to provide value engineering to the extent that the project was delivered under the client’s revised budget, despite increases in scope in excess of $120,000.

The project was completed six weeks ahead of programme, enabling the client to meet their objective of moving in early and freeing up much needed, valuable storage space elsewhere.
