Overview
A new educational and medical facility for Wagga Wagga
The UNSW Faculty of Medicine has been operating at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital since 2000. Currently the UNSW Rural Clinical School (RCS) only caters for full-time students in Years 3 – 6 of their medical degree in Medicine. The Biomedical Sciences Building will provide additional teaching spaces and enable the enrolment of 25 full-time students for each year of the six-year degree program.
The project consists of the demolition of an existing on-grade car park. Detailed Design and Construct of the UNSW Biomedical Sciences Centre building and associated infrastructure and external works, plus landscaping.
The new facility will be an open and welcoming building to encourage student and staff interaction. The building will include: Wet Science and specialist Dry Anatomy, Pathology, Clinical Skills and virtual reality based Simulation Laboratory spaces to support the delivery of the medical degree course which, while heavily sciences and technology based, also involves simulated patient interaction for important communication skills training.
