Two schools at the same time
The redevelopment of the Tweed River High School (TRHS) and Tweed Heads South Public School THSPS) is to be completed concurrently. The schools sit on adjacent sites.
The Tweed River High School features a number of existing buildings of various sizes serving different purposes, and the majority of these buildings are proposed to be retained with the exception of Building E, which is earmarked for demolition.
New works represent a mixture of refurbishment and repurposing of existing spaces as well as construction of new Building T.
The extent of new works can be summarised as follows:
- Building B – GLS Refurbishment and new lift
- Building L – Repurposing of existing library into new science laboratory spaces;
- Building F – Repurposing of existing Ground Level classrooms into new library and Senior’s Learning. Refurbishment/repurposing of classrooms on Level 1;
- Building J – Development of internal design
- Building R – Development of internal design
- New music building
- Building H – Refurbishment
- New TAS facilities
Tweed Heads South Public School currently features 7 core buildings and various ancillary structures. It is proposed to demolish Buildings C, D and OSHC.
The extent of new works can be summarised as follows:
- Building E – Refurbishment of Early Learning CentreConstruction of brand new Building 1 featuring home bases;
- Construction of brand new Building 2 featuring home bases, library and ancillary spaces;
- Construction of stand-alone OSHC within existing COLA (adjacent to building F);
- Refurbishment of existing learning spaces on Level 1 of Building A;
- Refurbishment of existing learning spaces on Level 1 of Building B.
