Overview
Another “kit-of-parts”.
Gregory Hills Public School – a new K-6 school on a 2.9ha greenfield site. New facilities include: library; multipurpose hall; OSCH facilities; canteen; administration facilities; 44 home bases, 4 support unit home bases; playing field, hardcourt areas; student and staff amenities; and covered walkways.
The building has been designed around panelised and prefinished building components, manufactured by Viridi, in keeping with MMoC ‘Kit of Parts’ philosophy, currently being adopted by School Infrastructure MMoC Unit. There was a strong emphasis on offsite (factory) fabrication, with building components, including composite suspended floor cassettes, external timber walls, internal timber columns and beams and timber roof cassettes all being manufactured offsite, delivered and erected via crane. The external wall panels were delivered on stillages and are 7.5m long and 3.3m high. The panels are externally clad in the façade system, lined internally with 20mm Promatec fire rated/moisture resistant board and have the windows and doors incorporated.
The precast stairs, walkways and lift shaft are another example of the MMoC philosophy. The innovative services carrier frames were fabricated and fitted out with mechanical units and duct, wet fire, electrical, communications, lighting all offsite. They were then pre-tested, lined with duct board, wrapped and delivered to site, then craned onto position with the timber building components.
