Our Girraween Public School site hosted a Mates in Construction Fly the Flag Day on Friday.
Fly the Flag Day provides the opportunity for the construction industry to celebrate our commitment and contribution to suicide prevention.
According to recent research shared by the University of Melbourne and MATES in Construction, suicide rates amongst males working in the Australian construction industry are twice as high as for male workers in other sectors. Construction workers are six times more likely to die by suicide than from an accident at work.
Lipman is an industry partner with Mates, so we go out of our way to support the workers on our projects. Following a special breakfast, we heard a moving speech from Marc Finnigan about suicide prevention, delivered to the 130+ on-site workers. Everyone signed the flag, committing their support for the cause.
