Overview
The new Wesley Edward Eagar Centre provides a range of purpose-built facilities for Wesley Mission clients, including single accommodation spaces which mirror ‘home’, fully integrated pastoral and counselling spaces, recreational facilities and dedicated space for program and service partners as well as staff.
The overall design of the refurbishment has provided the following:
- 40 single accommodation rooms each with ensuite;
- Triage space for clients who present;
- Counselling areas;
- One central common area on the ground level ;
- Commercial kitchen facilities;
- Professional Development & Training space for Specialist Homelessness
- Services Team;
- Counselling café;
Outdoor areas for counselling and - recreational opportunities;
- Dedicated space for other support service providers, and;
- Upgraded access and egress to comply with relevant Australian standards, codes, and disability discrimination.
The main construction aspects of the project included:
- Demolition and strip out;
- Construction of new lift shaft within the lower floor’s heritage space and externally to the tower;
- Replacement of an existing lift and additional lift;
- Complete major services upgrade and plant room works;
- Internal fit-out works of common, back of house, front of house and accommodation areas;
- Upgrade of the commercial kitchen;
Heritage restoration of existing façade, windows, doors, and palisade fencing; - Façade cleaning of the existing tower structure;
- Replacement of existing windows within the tower, and;
- Courtyard terrace works, including landscaping.
