Overview
The Lodge of Learning
The project encompassed the complete design finalisation, construction, and refurbishment of an existing library, beginning with extensive internal demolition and strip‑out works. The renewed design sought to create contemporary, functional spaces that align with evolving operational and community needs.
The refurbishment delivered a suite of new office spaces, a dedicated communications room, upgraded amenities, and a reconfigured entry and common area. These works transformed the floor into a more efficient and welcoming environment, supporting both staff and visitors.
A second area was entirely reimagined to accommodate a range of new commercial and communal functions. A full commercial kitchen, servery, café, lounge, dry store, cool room, freezer, dish drop area, office, and upgraded amenities were integrated into the redesigned layout. The new entry and common areas further contribute to a cohesive and accessible visitor experience.
The project also included significant building upgrades, such as the installation of new metal roofing and the creation of new façade openings to enhance light, access, and overall architectural expression. New doors and glazing elements were incorporated to improve thermal performance, durability, and aesthetic quality.
In addition to the library refurbishment, the broader campus development involved the masterplanning and architectural design of ten new buildings: eight accommodation cabins, a dining hall, and a reception building arranged along the natural contours of the site. Anchored by a majestic ancient fig tree and oriented toward Mount Yarrahapinni, these buildings work together to create a calm, cohesive setting that supports the campus’s educational and community‑centred purpose.
