7 Storey Village Housing
New College is a 7 storey village housing 319 postgraduate students at the University of New South Wales. It comes complete with basement parking, lift services, a roof terrace on the northern wing with a pergola, disabled facilities, male and female toilets, common/communal rooms, a central courtyard, tutor and study facilities, large glazed panels to the eastern elevation and kiosk substation on Day Avenue.
The project has been championed by the Master of New College, Professor Trevor Cariney since early 2004. After an exhaustive selection process, the College chose Lipman Group Pty Ltd as development and construction managers to implement their aspirations. Lipman undertook the early planning, financial structuring and feasibility phases, adding extra value to the development by increasing the bed numbers and the economic efficiency of the project. Architects, Allen Jack + Cottier were appointed to design the building and Lipman Pty Ltd as building construction managers.
