University Of Western Sydney Building 8 Bio Med

University of Western Sydney

David Pilgrim Avenue, Campbelltown

Lump Sum

Project Details

The project entailed the complete strip out and partial structural demolition of a two storey laboratory building including the existing timber truss roof in and around 12 existing chimneys, on the existing UWS Campus at Campbelltown. The refurbished facility has PC 1 and PC 2 laboratories. The services component of the refurbishment was extensive with new mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, fire, communications and medical gases services made to fit the existing structure – a challenging task to co-ordinate. A new lift was built into an existing stairwell.
The new laboratories have state of the art audio visual installations providing lecturers and students with a much more versatile teaching facility.

“Builders have historically had a fairly healthy disdain for Architects, but I think Lipman really represents the modern builder in as far as they recognise the importance of having Architects engaged in the team.

Everyone has got similar yet different objectives, but it’s the collaboration of the three parties, including the other consultants involved, that is essential. That’s where working with Lipman has been very successful.”
